Visiting Hungary and Czech republic via Bratislava in Slovakia Posted: Mon June 15, 2009 12:24 AM UTC
Hello everyone ;)
I will be in Bratislava in the end of August, I desperately need the EXACT prices and timetables to go from Bratislava to Praha and Budapest, but especially to the close Hungarian town of Masonmagyarvornear Bratislava. Did someone ever come to this little town, how is it?
I already looked in so many forums and train and transport websites but I am totally lost, I spent days to get the infos and still have nothing! I look for the cheapest way, bus or train.
By the way, if anyone have tips and advises for these countries through their travel experiences, it would be perfect.
Thank you so much, :)

I mispelled the name of the town,
Bratislava (Slovakia) to Masonmagyarovar (Hungary)
A last thing, in order to go to Vienna from Bratislava airport, is that cheaper to take the bus there or to go to the trainstation and to take a train?

It is not always easy to find fares online in English for some European countries. They are, however, always reasonably-priced in my experience.
http://www.bahn.de/international/view/en/index.shtml
will give you train times and details for almost all European trains, in English, but not fares.
http://www.zssk.sk/en is the Slovakian railway website, in English. It will give you train times and details of changes etc (including platforms).
If you click on the orange 'services' tab you will find links to give you fares, including internet sales for some trains and a list of standard fares (based on distance, so you can work out a rough price by using www.viamichelin to calculate distances).
Trains are well-priced, but buses are often cheaper.
http://www.slovaklines.sk/hlavna-stranka-eurolines.html
will give you times and fares for long-distance buses. Bratislava to Vienna (Wien) for example, is 7.70 euro one-way with 5 departures times per day.

Bratislava-Budapest (12 euro one way or 16 r/t if you buy in Slovakia or Hunagry)
Bratisalva-Praha (23-24 euro one way or 33.3 euro r/t - here you need Citystar ticket type, of you buy in Slovakia)
Bratislava-Wien (9.2 euro r/t)
And about Mosonmagyarovar - it can be reached by Bratislava-Budapest bus (Eurolines) or early morning train Praha-Budapest. Another option is to catch taxi till Rajka (just outside of Bratislava) and from there you can use domestic Hungarian train till Mosonmagyarovar

Thanks you a lot.
For the first poster:
The only problem is the Slovakian Eurolines website gives me information only about going to Vienna and Praha, it doesn't work for Budapest or Mosomagyarovar!
By the way, the last departure they propose to Vienna is 20h00, my plane arrives at 22h05, does it mean there is no way to go to Vienna at this hour?
As for the http://www.zssk.sk/en website, it doesn't help me either, either I am really dumb or it is not efficient!!!
I will just email them.
Is there by the way a possibility from Bratislava to stop at the cloest Czech Republic's town or village instead of going far away to Praha?
Thank you, to both of you.

Bratislava-Mosomagyarovar better to look at Hungarian Eurolines website...
Trains from Bratislava to Wien run up to 1am, so you just need to use the train...
If you go by train from Bratislava to Czech republic you can get off at first Czech station - Breclav (only one hour ride from Bratislava)
Bratislava-Breclav r/t costs 8.6 euro
