Manila Manila or Quezon City?
Posted: Sun June 14, 2009 11:33 PM UTC
Will be in the Philippines a week in August. Can't decide whether to stay in Malate (Manila) or Quezon City. Questions:
1) How far apart are these 2 locations?
2) Is it convenient to commute between the two areas?

If you stay by the mall in Quezon City you can get to Manila by train in about 10 minutes If by taxi about a hour.Quezon City is nicer and cleaner than Malate I think. There is more things to do in Manila but the train is great and fast.

The distance is about 10 kms. The most convenient way to commute between the 2 is by the LRT-MRT. The LRT train is along Taft Ave. (where you could ride at Malate) and connects to the MRT at the EDSA Pasay-Rotonda station to get to Quezon City. Note however that since the MRT only plies the length of EDSA, you'd have to get off somewhere along the route and take a cab/bus to your actual destination if it's not along EDSA.

"Can't decide whether to stay in Malate (Manila) or Quezon City." >> It really depends on what your priorities/interests are in both areas.

"How far apart are these 2 locations?" >> Quezon City is about 8-10 kms. from Manila, depending on your starting point.

"Is it convenient to commute between the two areas?" >> Yes, it is very convenient commuting between the two areas. From the corner of Taft Avenue and Epifanio delos Santos Ave.(EDSA), you can transfer from LRT (from Manila) to MRT (going to QC), and vice versa. From the station, you just have to walk a few distance, or take a cab/jeepney to your specific destination.

Malate is close to Manila tourist attractions.
Quezon City is huge, specify location. A good base for trips to northern Luzon as most bus terminals are located here.
Night life is equally alive in both.
QC is a lot cleaner and a lot less congested.
