Re: Ground Transportation at Las Angeles International - LAX - Airport Posted: Sun June 14, 2009 06:09 PM UTC
Amtrak does go from Union Station to Irvine. The easiest way to get from LAX to Union Station is to use the Flyaway bus. They use the carpool lanes, so they are mostly unaffected by LA traffic. Whether on not to use thie Amtrak option depends on how close the Irvine train station ( Irvine Transportation Center, 15215 Barranca Parkway, Irvine, CA 92618 ) is to your final destination in Irvine.
The Metro rail from LAX to downtown is poorly designed. You would need a shuttle bus to get to the first train, then two more transfers. I recommend skipping it unless you like carrying luggage and waiting a lot.
With four people, a private limo may be cheapest. I'd contact several companies and get bids. We did a 30-mile run to LAX a year or so ago for $70. The 40-50 miles from LAX to Irvine sould cost you something from $100 to $120.
Welcome to LA
