Grenoble Best hotel for family with two small children
Posted: Fri June 12, 2009 11:29 PM UTC
Visiting Grenoble, France for two days/nights - a family of four, with two children 3 and 6. Would you please recommend best hotel in the city with nice, clean rooms/suites, nice atmosphere, some charm (not as a business hotel)and possibly a good restaraunt(s) nearby.

Thank you!

Hôtel de l'Europe is in the hyper center (restaurants around), easily reached by tram from the train station. Price of the rooms are from 25 to 55 euros. http://www.hoteleurope.fr/

Tulip Inn Hotel d'Angleterre Grenoble stands on Place Victor Hugo, a very nice square in the city center, easily reached from the train (and airport shuttle) station. US$80-120 http://www.hotel-angleterre.fr/

Hôtel Suisse et Bordeaux is in front of the train, bus and airport shuttle station. Lots of restaurants around. The city center is close and easily reached either by foot or by tram. US$20-40 http://hotel-suisse-bordeaux.com/

Hôtel Terminus is also in front of the train, bus and airport shuttle station. http://www.terminus-hotel-grenoble.fr/

Exclusive Park Hotel Grenoble. The city center is close to the Park Hotel and easily reached either by foot or by tram. It is in front of the Park Paul Mistral in a beautiful environment. It is considered as one of the best hotels in Grenoble if not the best. More expensive than average

http://www.hotel-sb-grenoble.com/en-index.htm is the correct web site for the Hotel Suisse Bordeaux in Grenoble. The price for a room for 4 people is 77.60 euros (about 102 US dollars).

I suspect the prices given for the hotels in the reply above are a bit out of date so you may want to check the web sites for current prices. The exchange rate is around 1.32 US dollars for one euro. You can check the rate at http://www.xe.com/ucc/ because it changes constantly.

We camped while there so I can't suggest any hotels. Check the hotels mentioned above as they seem well located. You can also type Grenoble into the VT Search Window above and then check Tips for "Hotels and Accomodations." These will be suggestions and reviews by VT members who have used them.

You can also go to http://www.tripadvisor.com and type in hotel names for reviews of all the hotels. There is usually a web site there too so you can check current rates.

Enjoy a lovely city and breathtaking scenery!

not much to say other than on my business trips there I always use the Accor French hotel chain, and they are very good. This is the website with hotels in Grenoble, one Novotel and one Mercure is right on city center, I had stay at the Mercure, you wont go wrong there.

The accor hotels are fine but are primarily business hotels. We've used them on more than one occasion, but not when we wanted a "feel" for the city/town/area. They are clean, well-run and efficient but not "charming" or even particularly representative of the area. They tend all to be alike . . . a plus for the business traveler but not if you are looking for something special.

If you haven't checked the VT Grenoble Travel Pages, you may find some recommendations for hotels that are more representative of what you seem to be looking for. (Type Grenoble into the VT Search Window above and then click on Hotels and Accomodations Tips to find recommendations.)

You might also check http://www.tripadvisor.com and do a search for Grenoble hotels. There will be photos and reviews to help you. Good luck.

Enjoy your trip.

I have just posted on the Krakow Euromeeting thread the following comment :

I agree it is very unlikely that the Euromeeting would sometime be organized in France, as there are so few VT members in France and even fewer that are active. Moreover and funnily, it seems that among the most active Vters living in France, a significant number are not French, haha! Especially in Paris. Why not? We are all citizens of the world!

Beausoleil, I fully agree with you to congratulate Pedro for his usefulness on the France forums ! He deserves to be a "citoyen d'honneur"!

wow! merci beaucoup à tous. Thanks / well in another forum I try to have one in France or Spain or Italy, but it was decided to do in Georgia USA. I had some small get together in Paris and it has been wonderful, even visiting Versailles with me. So why not a VT meet in Paris, I am sure it will be a blast....just a thought

and Yes, JLBG, it is amazing that the native French are not more involved, I know some and met one ,but they are not really active; my wife is native (seine et marne) and help me with ideas sometimes but never gets on VT. I guess it has to do with the fact that when you live here, you have so much beauty around you, its taken for granted. if it wasnt for VT, I would not even take pictures of Chateau de Versailles, and I drive by even this morning almost every day ! Interesting.
