Forum Question Posted By: Replies:
Brussels Can I buy a senior rail ticket at the station in Brussels?
Posted: Fri June 12, 2009 05:42 PM UTC
This may be a silly question. I am 65 (just) and plan to travel from Brussels to Bruges this coming Monday 15 June. I hope to avail of the great discount for over-65s, but I don't know yet if I can make the trip, or at what precise time. Can I walk up to a station ticket office in Brussels on Monday morning, or do I have to book online to get this discount? Any information warmly welcomed.

You can buy straight at the station. If you want to be sure, you can even e-mail them. They usually respond.

You just need to present an identity document (passport) showing your date of birth to prove that you are eligible for the over-65 ticket, and have this on you in the event of checks on the train.
There is no need whatsoever to buy online, but while you can BUY the ticket at any time, do note that you can't travel on it until after 09:00 on a weekday: http://www.b-rail.be/nat/E/tarifs/tickets/seniors/index.php

The cost of a 65+ ticket is always 5 euro, no matter the distance between 2 Belgian stations. No reservations needed. You can buy it at the counter a minute before leaving if you like. However, in addition to the answer of the previous poster, count in some non- valid days too. Then you'll have to pay the full price.
