Hi my husband and i are travelling to phuket in July and would like some recomendations on where to eat out.We are staying at Patong and would prefer good Thai, Seafood or Western. I went to Phuket 3 years ago with my sister and had trouble finding any where good to eat so went to Macas quite abit and ate beautiful pancakes made by and old man with his cart on the side of the road. So please if anyone can recomend please do. Also would like to know some good aussie drinking places.Cheers Dee

I am fussy where i eat. Place must look clean, and meals reasonably priced. Some I like,
Tropica, on Beach Rd, just south of Bangla Rd
Loma Restaurant, on Beach Rd adjacent to Loma(Dolphin)Park (where the white fibreglass dolphins are)
Sweet Restaurant, Soi Patong Tower
The Noodle Stand (not its name), Cnr Sawadirak and Ratathit Rd, opposite the school. Meal 35 Bt, pork satay 50 Bt for 10...yum
Where are you staying, it will help not having to walk to far?

Patong Seafood and Savoey Seafood on the beach road close to the junction with Soi Bangla are very good IMHO. Also Sabai Sabai on Soi Post office, about 5 minutes from the Merlin is very good. And for very casual, but good Thai food Chiang Rai Seafood or any of the others in "food alley", a small soi off of Bangla near the Aussie Bar. As for Aussie drinking places there are a few in Soi Bangla; Ned Kelly's, Kangaroo and the Aussie Bar come to mind. However my favourite bar is the Original Shipwreck.
Please see my Phuket pages for more details on the above.
Regards
John

Yes...!!!...The Aussie Bar...!!...But don't even think about the bar mat...!!??..
I ate at Sabai Sabai twice with my girlfriend and altho' she did not become ill, both times,my stomache was quite upset later..!!??...I am thinking that maybe it could have been the mixed fruit shakes as they were not really chilled enough or maybe dirty glasses..??..However the food tasted really nice...!!
Many a time,we ate at the beforementioned "Sweet" and also "Spatz"...Both fabulous cheap food. The waitress at Spatz is the best, understands english impeccably and after you have eaten, you have free half hour internet use of the inhouse computer...
There is a chance that "Sweet" could be closed during (slow period) July...
I would absolutely recommend you get yourselves up to Kata Beach and spend the night drinking at the "Ska" bar at the extreme southern end of Kata Beach...Fabulous location overlooking the beach under a huge figlike tree...Friendly vibes and great entertainment...!!...No batgirls...!!

Re: best places to eat &drink Posted: Fri June 12, 2009 06:46 AM UTC
We stayed at the Merlin April last year. The best and closest place we ate at was callled "The Banana Leaf Restaurant". It was on Ratuthit Road, only about a 5minute walk if that from the Merlin. Meals were quick, cheap, fresh and absolutely delicious. A prawn noodle stirfry with vegies only about $5-$6AUD. I would thoroughly recommend this place.
Also, as someone said we ate at Sabai Sabai and it was great, sooooo cheap, there was another cheap place down that Soi Post Office but I cant think of it. Dont eat at the Merlin restaurant on the beach road, it was expensive and not very nice!
If I think of anything else Ill tell you.
Cheers! Lindy

OK ... now Im cooking, I have my travel journal in front of me!
The Merlin restaurant on beach road is called Cafe del Mar - DONT eat there! Meal and drinks for 2 people was $25AUD - which is quite dear for Patong standards, but more importantly, the food was not that great.
If you want to really spoil yourself, book a table a few days in advance and go to Baan Rim Pa at sunset, its on the headland at North Patong. Cheap by aussie standards but dear by Thai standards, but worth every cent.
We ate many lazy lunches by the Merlin pool just ordering from the Pool Menue - It was cheap, fast and delicious and very convenient as well.
We also ate once at Napoli on Soi Post office, if you need a good italian fix, this place is nice. Meal and drinks for 2 people (softdrinks for all of these drinks sorry no alcohol!) was about $24AUD, it will obviously be more if you are drinking alcohol, but if you like Thai beer, that is very very cheap!
The other place I mentioned on soi post office thats cheap and yummy is called "S & G restaurant" - you will get a meal and drink for about $6AUD!
If you have kids with you who may be fussy, there are plenty of fast food places closeby - Maccas, Subway and Burger King are a short walk away from the Merlin on beach road.
Ultimately, the choices are endless and varied. I would definitely eat at the Banana Leaf, we ate there many times and every time it was great - they also have a western menue for fussy kids! You can get away with meals per person per day for $20 very easily.
Hope this helps. Oh and by the way, if your brekkie is included at the Merlin, eat up big and you wont even need much lunch, if any! The choices for brekkie are endless and scrummy! Eggs cooked any way you want in under a minute flat, fruit, cereals, pastries, meat and veg if you desire - mmmmmmm the brekkie was unreal!~
Please have a look at my Thailand page for more info on our trip.
Lindy :)

I am guessing you mainly want restaurants in Patong. For decent Thai, as JohnAlex said, the alley with the 3 restaurants, Chiang Rai, Meng Rai and another I can't remember are pretty good. They're on the right hand side of Soi Bangla as you're walking away from the beach.
Suki Suan Mee Restaurant at the rear of Robinsons Ocean Plaza on Soi Bangla is also quite good. It's a Thai Suki place (similar to steam boat).
For fine dining - 9th Floor (western cuisine), Baan Rim Pa (classy, but average to good Thai food), La Boucherie (Royal Phawadee Village, Sawatdirak Road) for very good food and are renown for their steaks, there is also a new restaurant at the resort which is stunning.
Take a look at my Phuket restaurant tips, I have quite a few reviews there, including pictures.
