Barcelona - Parts of Town? Posted: Thu June 11, 2009 05:20 AM UTC
Hellow fellow VTers,
Can anyone please tell me about the following areas?
Are they safe, in a busy part of town, centrally located, etc.?
1. Avenida Diagonal 335
2. Calle Bruc 150
3. Pau Claris, 74
Thanks in advance.

yeah! of-course these addresses you mentioned happens to be some of the many considered upper class of Barcelona, taxes there are incredibly high to keep up with the money makers. Not nearly but for instance Avenida Diagonal can be compared to two step down of Fifth Avenue of New York City. These streets are averagely busy, Calle Bruc as well as Pau Claris are considerably nearly a side street yet busy. When you speak of centrally located, would that mean for you like Las Ramblas or Plaza Catalunya? Well, I got news for you, thos two famous tourist streets happen to be located downtown. If from Avenida Diagonal you intend to walk to Las Ramblas, it's quite a very pleasant easy walking of about 15 minutes walking to Las Ramblas. Do I have the feeling that you have found an accommodation in these streets, is that why your asking? Best that you let us know why it is necessary for you to know, so we can help you better. Now I have a suggestion for you. Take five minutes of your time, please go to my homepage of Barcelona and you can view the map of Barcelona, perhaps that would assist you with more information, otherwise, please put another post and we surely will be more than happy to help you! Happy Traveling!

The addresses 1 and 2 are actually close to each other, a couple of blocks apart. The Avinguida Diagonal is a wide and long avenue with much traffic, especially at certain times of the day. Anyway it is a safe area and you can easily find restaurants nearby. If you are checking possible accommodation, I would personally prefer the third address, because it is very close to the oldest, more historical part of the city. It is also just one block away from one of the most famous restaurants in Barcelona, the Casa Calvet.

Thank you for the information, you've been a great help. The reason why I'm inquiring about certain areas is because I would like to know more about area's that I'm concidering booking hotel reservations. A map would only be able to tell me the location of the hotel, however would not give me important details about the area, for example high traffic, quiet, off the map places nearby, etc.
Thanks!

Manara,
You've been a tremendous help. You are giving me a feeling of the neighborhoods by your description, landmarks and tips. You are really helping me narrow down my choice. I may have a few more address to research before I make my final decision.
Thank you so much!

all 3 are safe and nice streets, with lots of restaurants and shops around. I would head to the one in Pau Claris as well, if location was the only factor to consider, as its close to the Old Town but not right *on* it
but the other 2 are closer to Gracia, my fav area in town....
all 3 are nice and safe areas. as said, Diagonal can be noisy. But everything is relative, a high floor well insulated in Diagonal will be better than a low floor in a not so busy street.
you will be walking distance to some sights and a short metro/bus ride to others in any case
I'd consider what else every accommodation place offers before making a decision
