Cape Town Any suggestions for New Years Eve??
Posted: Wed June 10, 2009 09:29 PM UTC
Hi

Me and my husband (aged 26) arrive in Cape Town on the 31st December and was wondering if anybody had any good suggestions on the best places to see the new year in especially around the V&A area?

Thanks

When in Cape Town- it is ESSENTIAL to observe the usual precautions as when travelling in any foreign country. The taxi service has improved vastly- because of the volume of tourists that visit the city.I lived in Cape Town most of my life, and visit there every year. We see improvement on every return trip.Be warned though- V & A is crazy at New Year. It can get rough & rowdy.
Being young- you may find it to be great fun.
The Sea Point promenade is very festive at New Year also. Fireworks & much merriment.
One word of advice- don't wear expensive, showy jewellery, and keep valuables in a safe place. Avoid dark streets & alleys. Stay with the crowd. And you willenjoy your stay for sure. I have a VT page on Cape Town with more information, that may give you some idea of the city. There are many good VT pages on Cape Town. Read some of them. All have good information.

Hi, oh yes!!!! New Years in the Mother City is definitely a festive experience. As Lynne mentioned the V & A gets quite packed and roudy, however, is definitely a great place to bring in the new year considering you are young and that is ofcourse if you enjoy the whole lively buzz. I am 22 and I use to love going to Camps Bay for New Year until last year, so one word of advise....STAY AWAY FROM CAMPS BAY on New Years Eve....It is no doubt the best place to go for cocktails or a stroll on the beach as well as pub hop any day other than New Years Eve. The places close by or before 12 due to the large amount of people who come from the rural areas in 60 seater buses and taxis.....It gets quite out of hand, not a very pleasant experience.

One of my favourites is packing a picnic basket with a blanket and long candles (to stick in the beach sand around the blanket) and heading to Clifton 4th beach to join thousands of tourist, celebs and locals bring in the new year.

Realy great :)
