Not a lot will be open that day as it's a public holiday. Apart from corner shops and petrol stations there will be very few shops open on the 26h. Most large shops etc re-open on the 27th, although many smaller ones may stay shut for longer or even into the new year in a few cases.

The pubs will be open on the 26th and many of them do good food but I'd say a lot of restaurants won't be open apart from in hotels etc.

Probably a good day to get over your jet lag :)

I read that lots of people make a day out to the races on Stephen's Day.
The 27th is a Sunday - will shops be open then?
And, according to my calendar, Monday 28th Dec. is a Public Holiday in the Republic of Ireland - more closures ?

I don't understand why Stephen's day is colsed in the capital.
It is a great day through-out the country. It is the first meeting day after Christmas. Plus, with Christmas Day being totaslly closed, people look forward to going out. I imagime Temple Bar would be open, bars, restaurants, etc.??
