Machu Picchu From Santiago de Chile to Machu Picchu

Does anybody travelled from Santiago de Chile to Machu Picchu ?
What route and how would you recommend there ? What route would you recommend in my back from Machu Piccu. Generally I have not got too much time. Maybe it is worth to go via plane from Santiago to any local airport near Machu Picchu ?

By plane Santiago -> Lima (also with GOL) -> Cusco
from Cusco by train to Aguas Calientes.
I suggest to sleep on night in Aguas Calientes.

Maybe you get a better deal if you fly Santiago-Lima and then Lima-Cusco with the same airline such as LAN, check their website.
TACA also flies Santiago-Lima and also Lima-Cusco but the latter route only once a day (early morning) whereas LAN has a dozen flights.
GOL doesn't fly Lima-Cusco.
Also check Lima-Cusco on STARPeru.

get a taxi to Olyantantambo, cheaper and faster then train (I suggest also to visit and stay a night close to Olyantantambo). The train from/to Olyantantambo it would be cheaper. There are vans to share with other people that are cheaper than taxi.
BTW there is an hostel at Olyantantambo station, in this moment I do not remember the name.
