Given that he was a fictional character created by Agatha Christie, I doubt there would be enough about him to fill a museum.
Mind you, a Tin-Tin (Herge's cartoon character) museum is supposed to opening in Brussels soon...it may already be open.

Tha fact that the character is not real does not mean anything (museum of Sherlock Holmes, Anne Shirley etc.).
It's a pity there is none of Poirot.
Thanks anyway :)

Perhaps this is a business opportunity for someone (subject to licensing issues), along the lines of the 'Sherlock Holmes Museum' in London. Now that IS a tourist trap.

Although there is no Poirot museum in Brussels, Agatha Christie's former home, Greenway, in Devon (England) is now open to the public. http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/main/w-greenway. She is said to have based the location of some of her books (notably 'Dead Man's Folly') on Greenway.

Gingergizmo: I did make the point that another fictional character does have a museum (interesting to know that it is now open).
But I can't see that there would be 'enough' of Poirot to fill a museum.

I wouldn't expect to find a Major Thompson museum in England - and this fictional Englishman is probably as well-known in France as the fictional Belgian Poirot is in England (and as little known in his fictional country of origin)!

Re: Hercules Poirot Posted: Wed June 10, 2009 08:43 PM UTC
Well I suppose it's the same thing as Verona creating "Juliet's house" to please tourists - and indeed in Hoboken, near Antwerp, there is a statue of a little boy and his dog who are featured in a story called "A Dog of Flanders", which is apparently known to all Japanese children. It was put up - together with a plaque near Antwerp cathedral, donated by Toyota - because of the number of Japanese tourists asking for locations that they thought would be famous, only to discover that Belgians had never heard of them.
As it happens, the Louvain-la-Neuve museum is devoted to Hergé rather than Tin-Tin, i.e. the creator not the fictional character.

Now that makes much more sense........Herge has so much more for a museum than Tintin.

Wel Ginger, let me tell you:
Hercule Poirot has not, as I know, an own museum. But there is a little town where the tradition says that our most known Belgian (after TinTin of course) was born: %L[http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/a17e6/56fae/]Ellezelles%L* A (little) statue prove the fact ! Enjoy your visit there 8
Friendly,
JP
