Ahhhh! The Vineyard Hotel is a really top-class hotel. It has been around foralong time-and I can highly recommend it. The service is good, and the food is superb, with a typical South African influence. There are also good bars & ther facilities.
The Victoria & Albert is also good- but situated in a very touristy area.It is popular with foreign travellers.
My personal favourite hotel is the Hohenhort. It is perfect in every way.
Have a look at the website:

ITs all about location, The Vineyard hotel and spa, is stunning,I was there a few months ago, and tried the spa as well, but away from the Centre of Cape Town. The V&A is right in the Waterfront, very touristy, but also good.
I would look up on the map where they are situated, and depending if you have a rented car, should not be a problem , both hotels will have shuttle services.

I take it that you are referring to the 2010 football games next year. If that is the case then the V&A waterfront is your best bet, cause it is close to the stadium as well as city centre. You can use taxi's to get around which is safe. If you want to know anything else, do not hesitate to drop me a note
