We have visited Kruger Park- but stayed at Ngwenya Lodge. The acommodation at the park is usually of a high standerd, due to the popularity of the park as a tourist attraction. In my opinion, pack jeans, tee-shirts and strong walking shoes ( for hiking) but defintely take warm jackets & warm jumpers, as it can turn cold in June. Hats & caps are essential. Regarding the Malaria medication- I recommend that you consult your GP.
Enjoy your visit- its an amazing experience. You could have a look at my Kruger National Park page for more tips & photos if you want more information.

Kruger is malarial. You can die in June, July, any month. Anti-malarial is both tablets and sprays. You need 100% deet. As said before, consult your doctor. Life threatining illness and/or death can really mess up travel plans. I can assure you they have mosquitos there waiting for you. If you don't want cover for yourself at least get the kids protected. You need serious sun screen as well.

Hope your travels are safe, healthy and happy.

I hope I am not too late.... I concur 100% with lynnehamman above regarding clothing to wear and the standard of the accommodation.
I do however not agree with the harsh message concerning Malaria. You will definitely not die as a result of Malaria whilst on the trip. Should you be bitten by a malaria infected mosquito, the incubation period is around 10 or more days. Three things are very important:
- Ensure that you take your prescribed Malaria prohylaxis (daily or weekly as prescribed) - no shortcuts.
- Put on your mosquito repellent in the late afternoon and wear longs and long sleeve shirts to reduce the chance of being bitten.
- After you have arrived home again, be watchful for any signs similar to a cold, flu, influenza, headaches, etc. When you do feel like that, immediately have your blood tested for malaria. Should you be infected, the treatment is fast and effective. However, with the prophylactics of today, there is only a minute, fractional chance of getting infected. In any case, mosquitos are generally dormant and inactive in the winter monts i.e. June.

I hope this puts you at rest! Relax and have an awesome holiday!

I agree with Frank - Malaria is more prevalent in Mozambique. The winter months in the Kruger Park are generally safe.
