As I recall from 2007, there are only 2 seafood restaurants at Fisherman's Wharf. I ate at one of them, and found the food to be ordinary, not memorable. For lunch, on a different day, I enjoyed the chowder in a bread bowl that I bought from a cart there. The only problem with that is that there are no park benches nearby. I was forced to sit on the crowded flagpole pedestal, already crowded with pigeons, pigeon dung, and homeless. For breakfast and lunch, I ate several times at ROXANNE, on the southeast corner of Bush and Powell (?). I distinctly remember it being 2 blocks north (uphill) from The Sir Francis Drake Hotel. This is only 3 blocks north of Union Square. Take the N/Judah streetcar to the end, at Ocean Beach (the Pacific), and eat at Java Beach. Check your email there, then take a 4 minute walk across the Pacific Coast Highway to view the mighty Pacific. If you're lucky, you'll see some real surfers, and dogs playing Frisbee.

Oh, I have stayed at The Sir Francis Drake, a Kimpton property, 3 or 4 times, which again is only a block or two north of Union Square. I have always enjoyed the rooms. It was under $200 -- and that was before the Recession.

Since I haven't lived in San Francisco for a while, my suggestions would be dated. I would, however, suggest visiting the following website: (http://sanfrancisco.menupages.com). The site lists many restaurants,by cuisine, and also neighborhood. There are reviews on some of the restaurants, online menus, and in some cases, links to the restaurant's web site. If you stay near the Wharf, you might wish to search by some of the following neighborhoods: Marina, The Haight, North Beach, Chinatown, etc. If you find a restaurant(s) that look interesting, you could always post another question in the forum requesting feedback. For dinner I recommend Little Joes at 85 5th Street between Jessie and Mission Streets. This is a somewhat new location, with the original on Columbus having burned down. Damn shame. It is located close to Union Square and the Powell Street BART station. I would also suggest walking to Chinatown for Dim Sum if you have the time as it begins one block from Union Square. I have no clue where you could find such a hat, at least not in SF.

I think I'd look for the hat online, or in Dallas. I don't seem to remember too many cowboy hats in San Francisco. Remind me to take a look at the link a bit later. Many hats are sold without the band, so you may have two different searches. Gary

I took a look at the web site for the hat. It is a nice one. You might go to: (http://caronemunds.wordpress.com/design), and leave a message asking the poster where he obtained the hat and band to see if you can order it. You can do so at the bottom of the page. You may have to register on the site to do so. Gary

If you like Garlic, The Stinking Rose on Columbus is a must for dining. SF has so many great restaurants it's always hard to choose, but Harry Denton's in Ghiridelli is wonderful albeit expensive.

Cowboy hats in San Francisco. I believe there is one store in the Mission District called the O.K. Corral, was Mora's, on Mission Street between 21st and 22nd Streets. As mentioned, near Union Square is Chinatown and for me Dim Sum lunch at You's on the 900 block of Stockton. As for Fisherman's Wharf, there are many seafood restaurants within a 4 block area. Boudin Bread has a great clam chowder and the crab boiling pots off the wharf have crab cocktails and other fish items. Some I have dined at are Alioto’s, Scoma's, Franciscan, and my favorite, Fishermen's Grotto #9. See my San Francisco Restaurant tips for the Grotto #9 and You's Dim Sum: http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/736c8/b870f/2/
