Zambia Yet another visa question
Posted: Mon June 8, 2009 09:05 PM UTC
I hear stories about the hotel setting up my visa for me. That my name will be on a list at the airport and I won't have to pay. Anybody know anything about this?

Sorry this is not anylonger the case, but for this tey even increased the visa price. ZAmbia does everything to keep the tourists away, don't understand why?

"Fee-waived visa" can be arranged by a FOREIGN tour operator, that is, from outside Zambia, which means they can vouch for you BEFORE your departure and not only upon arrival - otherwise, the airline should not let you board in the first place (because they will be fined if they inadvertently take someone for whom no visa is waiting...).
See http://www.expedia.co.uk/daily/wg/P44591.asp
If you are not booking through such an operator, of course you would need to organise your visa yourself.
However as with all such questions, you should ascertain first of all whether you need a visa, which depends on your nationality. Contact your local Zambian Embassy or High Consulate.

Now I'm getting scared. I thought that US citizens could buy their visa at upon arrival.

The ability for US citizens (I am) to get into Zambia with a visa on arrival has not changed. Fees have gone up. You can ring their High Commission (what they call an embassy) in Washington and confirm. They are Tourist friendly and US friendly, no problem. They only make a few, small countries get visa before travel.

Has this helped, or would you like a telephone number?

All the best,

DAO

Hi, the visa waiver scheme was cancelled early last year, For US citizen the visa is easy to purchase on arrival. you will need US$ no older than 2005, no marks, tape, tears, thus new is best. see
http://www.zambiaimmigration.gov.zm/zims/default.aspx
for fees. Download the visa form from this site, and fill in ready to hand in on arrival IF required, (it may not). one copy only, NO photos needed, your passport and face will do, along with the landing card that you will be given on the plane to fill in. If you get a multiple visa, pin the receipt to your passport to avoid any arguments about having paid at a later date.
