Estonian pop/rock music, and where to buy CDs in Tallinn or Tartu Posted: Sun June 7, 2009 09:49 PM UTC
A question to our Estonian members... I'm going to Estonia in September and would like to buy some CDs there for my collection of what I call "off the beaten path music". Not looking for traditional folk music but contemporary pop/rock/jazz by Estonian bands sung in Estonian.
However, to buy CDs one needs to know some names and which fit one's taste. I have already done a little research but I'd be grateful for some recommendations for good Estonian singers or bands so that I can look them up on, for example, YouTube and check if I like their style.
My musical taste? I like softer pop and rock, folk rock, jazz - a bit harder guitar rock is all right but no heavy metal. Important to me: a voice with some training, singing technique and volume, I cannot stand those (usually female) half-speaking voicies where you hear more hot air and breathing than actual sound. No techno, hip hop, rap and all that stuff.
I won't understand a word of the lyrics but please nothing on violence / fascism / obscenities. I have to trust you about this;-)
I'm grateful for any hint, and even more if you give me a link where I can listen to a sample of the singer's or band's music online. I'll then make my "shopping list" to take with me and see what I get hold of.
Second question: Where can I find a well-assorted CD shop in Tallinn or Tartu?
