The best of Estonia (nature)... Posted: Sun June 7, 2009 08:27 PM UTC
The best of Estonia (nature)...
I am planning a 2 week Estonia trip, after a 2 week Latvia trip this summer. I want to focus on pristine nature, and the great outdoors. If you know of any places off the beaten track (especially since I am going in summer, and I don't want to go to touristy places, especially tourist traps, rather quiet, untouched natural areas of Estonia. Anyways, if you live in Estonia, and are fond of nature, photography, and hiking, please help me. Thanks.
WHAT I'M LOOKING FOR:
1) memorable/dramatic scenery, landscape photography, or specifically where to find the best (viewpoints, vistas, natural views, panoramas, etc..)
2) also looking for the unique outdoors, and other amazing, breathtaking views?
WHAT I'VE FOUND SO FAR:
-Tartu, Elva Vitipalu Lake, Võrtsjärv Lake (northern or western shore), Karula National Park, Haanja National Park (access from Otepää)
-Parmu, Soomaa National Park , Matsalu National Park
-Saaremaa, Angla windmills, Kuressaare, Vilsandi National Park
-Hiiumaa island (ferry from Haapsalu), Sääre Tirp (Kaasari)
Thanks

Saaremaa with Sõrve Peninsula and Vilsandi is definitely worth a visit. Otepää's surroundings are beautiful, too. You have plenty of time in Estonia, so you can see a lot of nature here.

These ideas come from an Estonian couple. I copied from my Estonia page in case they might be of help Marg
Tere
Estonia is very nice small country and have lot of attractive thing to tourists.
We could suggest for tourists following things
First suggestion is Tallinn Old City and Estonian Song and Dance Festival.
Lot of Natural attractions (specially north estonia) :
Lahemaa national park
Cliff-lined coast (Pakri, Rannamõisa, Türisalu, Saka-Ontika-Toila)
Ida-Viru Mining Hills (Kiviõli) -
Swamps (Suru, Viru) -
Rocca al Mare open-air museum in Tallinn
Jõelähtme Ancient Graveyard
Waterfalls (Jägala, Keila-Joa, Valaste
Manor Houses (Palmse, Sagadi, Kolga, Laitse, Kalvi)
Monastries (Kuremäe)
Castles (Narva, Rakvere, Purtse fortress)
Museums (KuMu - Estonian Art Museum, History Museum, Maritime Museum, Kohtla Mining Museum, Viinistu Art Gallery, Jõhvi, Kuremäe Convent
Museum)
Churches
Of course it is difficult to suggest sightseeing, because we could not see them by same view as other people see beauty.
We suggest check out following web pages and after this contact with us if they want additional help or questions.

Hi
I recomend one of the most attractive regions of Estonia - north-East.
Wonderful Valaste waterfall and limestone shore/cliff,
nearby Toila searesort with beach, beautiful park and cave, lots of tourists coming there.
Narva - border city (castle, bastions, manufacture district); Narva-Jõesuu sea resort - kilometres of beaches!!
Kuremae orthodox nunnery - the only in Baltic states!!,
Town of Johvi - the capital of region.
Iisaku viewing tower, panorama of all region.
Mining mountains in Kohtla-Jarve and Kivioli - industrial landscapes.
Look pictures of sea coast of Region:
