My husband and I (early 30's and fairly active) are planning a 3-4 week trip to East Africa in the fall. Part of it we are doing on our own, and part of it we are planning on doing with a tour group. We are looking at a tour offered by Gecko Adventure Tours because it does not just visit the game parks, but also has what seems to be a good cultural component to the tour (staying a night @ an orphanage, visit to schools, etc.).

Has anyone had any experiences with Gecko, either positive or otherwise? We are aware that it will be somewhat of a 'roughing it' experience camping, and are fine with that, but are more interested in what the guides are like, etc.

Fall is a good time to visit Africa since the weather is just fine, not too hot nor cold. However, I cannot give you any feedback about that company since I've never tried them - nor heard of them before. But I would suggest you contact Masai Travel and talk with Jack if you are really interested in going. They are the ones who handled my last 2 African safaris and we are very satisfied with their services.
