Forum Question Posted By: Replies:
Montreal staying in montreal, onre night.
Posted: Sun June 7, 2009 01:55 AM UTC
Hi I'm from Colombia and spending a month in Toronto. I, with some friends would like to go to Montreal, visit the Cirque Du Soleil (big time fans), and stay a night in the city. However we are expected to spend little money in that trip, so I would like to know if you could tell me where to find a cheap place to stay near "Under the Grand Chapiteau, Quays of the Old Port of Montreal".

As a side point, I have everything planned on maps, however my friends doesn't believe me when i say that trains from Toronto can get to the central station in Montréal, am I wrong?

Hey to answer your first question, there aren't many cheap places right near Old Montreal. However if you look further into downtown near St. Catherines St. or St. Laurent there are a bunch of small hotels and you could even find deals at the downtown Holiday Inn. As for the train, if you take Via Rail, the station in Montreal is right downtown so don't listen to your friends.

as a side not and as a Torontonian, Cirque de Soliel is doing a free show in Toronto next weekend at the Harbourfront Centre for the Luminato Festival so you might not need to spend all that money unless you really want to go to Montreal

cheers,

Prices downtown or near Old Mtl are quite high (or they unrecommended, vagrants and drugs). But it`s easy to walk and an excell subway system. Search Youth Hostels and YMCA. The cheapest for a couple that I know of is attached to Oratoire St Joseph (50$ with breakfast). You`ll love Montreal!
