San Francisco Nightlife for the Over 50 Crowd

I'll be in SF in late July & have all my days planned out. But where do people my age go at night? I usually go to nightclubs, pubs, & bars, which are mostly filled with people in their 20s & I always feel so out of place. I'll be staying in North Beach, close to Chinatown.

I would recommend going to the Buena Vista cafe for some Irish Coffee. A very lively place, where you can talk to just about anybody and probably will. It is located just the other side of Fisherman's Wharf right across the street from the cable car turnaround. Their website is www.buenavista.com.

Try Yoshi's in the Fillmore district. It's a lovely jazz club that may have an act that will interest you. It frequently draws an older crowd. For cabaret, there's the Rrazz Room. For blues, try Biscuits and Blues or the Boom Boom room or Lou's (Fisherman's Wharf). The Fillmore sometimes gets oldies bands that may draw out the over 50 crowd. I think Enrico's in North Beach still has live music. Get a copy of SF Weekly or the Bay Guardian when you arrive. If there's an act listed that interests you, go see it. If it's a band you like, chances are some other people in your age group will be there. I don't think there are any discos that attract an older set.
