New York City Brooklyn areas / renting in brooklyn
Posted: Thu June 4, 2009 07:03 PM UTC
A friend of mine is going to NYC and has an oppertunity to rent a place on north 7th street in williamsburg. What I remember from this place it's a really nice area with bars and cafes and a lot of life.

She is unsure about brooklyn from it's old reputation and wonders what areas to avoid.

Am I right to tell her to rent here if she can or what's you oppinnion?

Thanks!

Tell your friend that Williamsburg has surpassed its up-and-coming phase into the phase of Hottest Place to Rent in NYC outside Manhattan. Seriously, this is a great neighborhood for young people. As in, don't go moving in with your 2-yr-old, but there's no security concerns even if you did. It's a great place to live for social people.

Generally speaking, it's far more posh than it ever was. Williamsburg used to be a slum. But North 7 St is 8 blocks long, and, in New York City, a distance of one block can make a big difference. To say that there are "no security concerns" is, let's say, painting a rosy picture. NYC ain't Kansas; anything can happen at any time! No matter how nice your neighbors are, you still have to take the subways and walk the streets at night.
