I need to travel from Birmingham International Airport to Derby. Please give me specific directions as this will be my first visit to the UK. My preferred mode of travel is rail.

use nationalrailenquiries journey planner

you need to choose birmingham airport ( if it will let you) or birmingham new street if not as the starting point

then Derby as the destination station and the dates and times you want to use the train

sorry for not being specific but if you get stuck email me you flight times of arrival and i can see if i can help - won't be until tomorrow though as i am off home now =

I don't think there is a direct train so you will need to change at Birmingham New Street. There is a train station at Birmingham International Airport, just follow the signs. There will be many trains going to Birmingham New Street as it is a main station, journey time will be around 10 minutes. At Birmingham New Street buy a ticket to Derby (if you haven't already bought online) and ask for the next train, the staff will show you where to go. Journey time to Derby is around 45 minutes. Derby station is quite central and there are buses outside.

Have a good trip

www.nationalrail.co.uk is the official UK railway website.

It will give you times, details and fares for all UK trains.

You will first have to go to Birmingham New Street station: this is where the train from the airport stops. Then you will change trains for the Birmingham>Derby segment.

Total journey time is around 1h - 1h 20m, one-way walk-up fare is from 13.10GBP (depends on train time). You do not need to book your ticket in advance...UK trains do not get full-up. If there is no seat you simply stand until one becomes available.

An alternative method is to take the direct long-distance bus (coach) from the airport to Derby. This is slower than the train, but cheaper......safe and comfortable enough, and does not involve changes. The coach will not stop on the way. Journey time is from around 2hours, one-way fare 7.60GBP.

will give you coach times and fares. It is best to book your ticket in advance as coaches can get full-up.
