Greetings,

Can someone tell me if a yellow fever vaccination is required for either Tanzania or Kenya. We will arrive from Canada to Kenya, and our safari will take us from there to Tanzania and then we will fly back to Kenya, and back to Canada.

I understand that visas can be obtained for both destinations when we arrive, is it a pretty simple process, or would it be best to have them in advance?

Yes it's required, though they might necessarily ask to see your paperwork.
Visas can be obtained at the airports, if you have your paperwork ready you can save yourself a few minutes, but you just line up and hand over your visa papers. They'll go through them fairly quickly, put the visa in your passport, stamp it and send you off to get your bags. That's what happened for me in February at Nairobi airport.
We got our Tanzanian visas at the border as we took a shuttle bus to Tanzania. A little more crazy but still we managed to get it done. If you do take a bus to Tanzania, at the border you have to get a Kenyan exit stamp on your passport before you walk over to the Tanzanian side for your visa.

Might as well save the hassle and just get the visa's ahead of time.

I've been a couple of times to Tanzania but a yellow fever certificate has never been a requirement on the mainland. I had read in a few places that a certificate would be required if you went to Zanzibar, but no one asked to see mine.

He'll be travelling from Kenya to Tanzania and then back to Kenya. Kenya will require the yellow fever vacination as he'll have been in a yellow fever zone.
