Laos Excusion Pass from Bangkok to Laos and onto Hanoi
Posted: Mon June 1, 2009 09:46 PM UTC
Hello,
I am hoping to travel from Bangkok to Laos in January and then onto Hanoi approx 2 weeks after.

I have been doing my research and have heard about an excursion pass which will allow me to fly from Bangkok, then catch a flight from Luang Prabang and then another to Hanoi at a later date. This might be through Laos Airlines.

I was wondering if anyone has heard of Laos airlines or another other carrier doing such a deal? I have looked at individual flights from Bangkok to Luang Prabang and was shocked at how expensive they were. The 'pass' seems to be a much cheaper option.

If you have heard of this please could you tell me how I could go about booking these flights and any idea on prices. I have also heard that Bangkok air may do a similar pass called discovery pass?

Thanks.

Your answers will be really appreciated

Yes, Lao Airlines does offer a 'discovery pass' that's modeled after Bangkok Airway's discovery pass. I think you need a minimum of 3 flights, so you could fly: BKK to Vientiane, VTE to Luang Prabang, and Luang Prabang to Hanoi.
Then you could fly inexpensively from Hanoi back to Bangkok aboard Air Asia. It's best to book the Lao Airline's flights via a Lao travel agency.
I copied an article about the discounted fares and will try to look it up for you.

Thanks very much for your help!

I have had an email from Laos airlines which I sent them a few days ago. They have sent me a reservation and quoted me 352USD per person. Is it me or does this seem expensive for 2 flights in Asia? They also said that they no longer offer the excusrion pass and that the flights they had quoted were seperate flights.

HMMMM I'm puzzled!

Wow, the news about the discontinuation of their discovery pass is news to me. With the slowdown in world travel, one would think Lao Airlines would try to get as many tourists as they can. Anyways, you might contact this agency which I use reglarly while in Luang Prabang and see if they can help you:

They also have a website: http://www.alllaoservice.com
