Train is not an option as there is no direct connection. Taxi would be prohibitively expensive. Your best bet is a minibus or jeep to Poipet, cross the border and then either bus to BKK or get a taxi a couple of miles into Aranya Prathet and get a bus or train from there.

Travel agents in SR will be able to arrange it all for you.

Hope this assists,

fergy.

Sorry,

now I will try to answer the question you actually asked.

I did this route in reverse a few years ago, and the road from the border to SR is pretty appalling although there were plans to fix it up. I left Aranya Prathet early morning and did not get into SR until evening. It is a long journey. Add on several hours for the bus to BKK and it will be a long day, so probably best to break your journey in Aranya. It is a pleasant enough place to spend an evening.

fergy.

Go to a travel agent in Siem Reap and they'll arrange a bus for you for 10 dollars, it takes around 8 hours. Trains not an option and bus is cheaper than taxi, by the way the bus will probably be a mini-bus with air conditioning.

I took this route in March 2009 and paid $25 USD for a Toyota Camry taxi(just my wife, myself and the driver) from SR to Poipet which was only 2 hours 20 minutes, then $8/person for Minivan (minibus) from the border to Bangkok which only took 4 hours BUT that included a stop for lunch that took about an hour. The minivan driver was driving like a bat out of hell, yawning and trying to stay awake the entire trip, but we made it alive!

I booked the taxi from our guesthouse (Babel) in SR and bought the minivan tickets for Thai border to BKK from a travel office in Siem Reap. The unpaved portion of the road from SR to Poipet was only about 30 minutes or so and not that bad (wet season is a different story!).

I'd recommend this trip anyday. $41 USD total for 2 people and only 5.5 hours driving time from SR to BKK.
