Getting married in Phuket in November. Help need some tips!! Posted: Mon June 1, 2009 01:59 PM UTC
Hiya
My partner and i are eloping and getting married at Nai Yang beach Phuket. There is only going to be us and our one year old son and two of our friends and their one year old son. Questions...
1) We are using a company called "Thailand wedding Ltd., Part & Phang Nga Discovery Tours (Your Thailand Wedding Specialist)to organise our ceremony. After lots of research they seemed to offer the most for the price and seemed to be experienced. Have good website, photo gallery etc. Anyone heard of them or had experience with them?? Have been dealing with Noi.
2) Should i wait and get wedding dress made there?? Only want simple and light (will be hot lol!!).
3) Any tips for travelling with a 13 month old to Thailand.... (am i crazy lol!!) Cant be immunised against typhoid as too young, but will be fully immunised otherwise.
Any other advice you feel might be helpful would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Lulu :)

Hiya,
you dont say where you are travelling to phuket from but i am assuming you are coming in on a long haul flight.
answers to questions,
1-dont know about the wedding company, sorry.
2- there are plenty of tailors in the major resorts in phuket who can make you a dress. i dont know if they will have much experience of making a wedding dress however they will certainly be able to create a dress for you. if you have a picture of one you want that will be very helpfull. give yourself at least 4 days for this to be done as in my experience getting suits made you will require the garment to be altered at least once.
3-try and reserve your seat by checking in online as soon as you can. this will help you to try and get the seats at the bulhead of the plane where the stewards will give you a portable crib for your child to sleep in. this attaches to the wall of the bulkhead and generally makes it much easier for you and you partner.
hope everything goes well,
mike

Hi Mike
Travelling from Sydney. :) We have already reserved a cot on the plane, have a great travel agent. This is my first time overseas, so a bit nervous.....
Thanks for your advice regarding tailor, i will be taking a picture of what i want made.
I am sure the wedding planner will be fine. Just a bit worried organising a wedding from here and not knowing what we have till we get there. :)
We are also going to koh samui so looking forward to that as well.
Many thanks
Lulu

Lulu, You've already made your choice of wedding planner, so if you feel good about how you are being dealt with by Noi (which is a common nickname for women here, meaning "small"), just relax and trust her. There are wedding dressmakers dotted around the island. I know of three that I drive past all the time. So there ARE seamstresses who would be able to fit you for your dream gown, whatever that may be. If it were me, I'd try to do this as it will give you even more wonderful memories of your wedding in paradise. Noi will probably know of a good dressmaker in the northern end of the island that she can recommend. Remember that it is in her best interest to keep you happy so that you will tell others how great she was, so it's unlikely she will send you to someone unreliable.
There's nothing special about traveling with a young child here other than protecting it from mosquito bites. Get a small mosquito net to drape over the crib in the hotel for when the child is napping as the bad mozzies are daytime feeders. You will be able to get food everywhere. If you plan to rent a car to get around, bring your infant seat so that you can strap your child in. These are not available at car rental places here.
