Jordan Best route for Petra to Jerusalem on a Friday . . .
Posted: Mon June 1, 2009 12:46 AM UTC
Is the Eilat border open, or do I need to go to Amman?
I am not very worried about the passport stamp as Israel is the last stop on my trip in the region.
If anyone can give me the current specifics of the best (easiest) route, I'd appreciate it very much. Thank you!

Petra to Jerusalem in one day is difficult.

Check this site foe the Eilat -Jerusalem travel info

and here

for all the info you need about getting away from Petra to either Amman or Aqaba

and here for a rundown on Eilat to Petra which will give you some idea of the logistics of the trip

We were in Israel in September last year for the world VT meet & we went for few days to Jordan (Petra & Wadi Rum)
Best thing is to take bus from Jerusalem to Eilat, and ask them to let you out ehere the road for the crossing meets the highway to Eilat.
Bus drivers will know. From the main road you will have to walk about 2km to the crossing.

NOTE: Be sure you cross the border before 20.00pm as they close the crossing promtly at 20.00. If you miss it you will need to wait till 6.00am next morning!!

You will need to pay exit tax of 85 Shekels or about €17.
Entrance visa to Jordan if you need one can be obtained for some Nationalities at the border.
My husband has UK passport & he had to pay 5 Jordanian dinars on the entrance for visa.
I am Macedonian National & I had to arrange visa beforehand.
But luckly the gude arranged for me to pick it up at the border too, instead in the Jordanian Ambassy in Hague, as I would had to wait 6 weeks!!
BTW same for exiting Jordan , you will have to pay 5 Jordanian Dinars for exit tax. 1 Jordanian Dinar=€1.
Crossing the border will take best part of 40 min. as you will need to go to security exit on the Israely side & security on Jordanian side too.
Ther are few vans/furgons always parked on the Jordanian side, and it will take you to Aquaba.
Or you can ask the people at the souvenir shop at the crossing to call you taxi.
From Aquaba you can get bus or van to Wadi Rum & Petra.
It is good 3 hours drive from Aquaba.
hope this helps.
