Hi guys,

could anyone suggest somewhere fab to stay over on the way to St Jean De Monts from Nantes airport?

We need to bare in mind that we'll have two tired children straight off a plane so we only want to travel a max of 30 mins from the airport. If we go somewhere half way or so then we've estimated that we'll only have approx 40 mins of travelling the next day to get to our holiday destination of Orouet, St Jean De Monts.

Check list required is;

1. Somewhere 30 min from the airport en route to holiday destination

2. Somewhere beautiful to wake up to in the morning !

3. Somewhere that serves a typical French breakfast, has swimming pool (outside)
and the Kids say 'WOW' to because its so pretty !

Not a lot to ask for I'm sure.....????


P.S RYAN AIR ARE SELLING FLIGHTS FOR £5 TO NANTES AT THE MINUTE UNTIL MONDAY I THINK? ONLY FROM CERTAIN AIRPORTS THOUGH.

I thought I had the perfect place for you before I looked at the map to remind myself of its location in relation to Nantes Airport....

We stayed at this place a couple of years ago when driving north, it is a bit north of Nantes Centre- but only just off the ring road at Heric.

We had a cottage for two people in the attractive gardens near the pool. There were several families with children staying there at the time.

I reckon the drive between the airport and Orouet is only about 45 miles.. So if you want a place to crash out in on your arrival, with a leisurely typical French breakfast ( coffee bread rolls and croissants) and a swim before setting off for your holiday destination it might be worth a look..

I would think about it again. It is only 63 km from Nantes airport to St. Jean de Mont. This takes slightly over one hour to drive. If you go to a closer location by the sea (which is a nice view for me) it takes you about 40 minutes, and you have the hassle of packing everything together the next morning. I do not know if it makes such a big difference if the tired kids are in the car another half hour to be right at the final destination...

If it really is an issue, there is a big fishing lake named Lac de Grand-Lieu south of the airport, very rural. But I can't recall if there was great accommodation available, and how the views would have been, as I stayed in Nantes on my last visit of the region. Looking on the internet, there are B&B rooms, a gite, and a 2 star hotel in a fishing village named Passay. But as said, I do not know if they have nice views, but I suppose it is a quiet place.

I shared some of Sissi's doubts about staying overnight with a comparatively short journey ahead of you.
But perhaps you will have had a long journey before your flight, will be arriving late, will need to collect your hire car, and will not be admitted to your accommodation until the following day.
