Any excursion in the afternoon pick up from hotel in Aix for Cassis and Calanques ? Would like to do on my own, but it seems that I have to go to Marseille from Aix. Any transport from Aix to Cassis ?

No, don't go to Marseille for an excursion to Cassis, it's a waste of time and could be a nightmare.
Proposals:

Choice 1: use a bus shuttle (my advise)

=> Route72 bus timetable could be checked on line (in French, ensure to select the L072 bus route)
=> Warnings: differences during vacations, week-end, ... so, choose the right date

Choice 2: ask your hotel or tourism center if there are some special "packages" (should be more expensive)

Don't do: don't rent a car!! Driving in Cassis is ... woow. Not an experience I coudl wish for you...

Advises: plan a trek or a boat tour in the Callanques. A must see ...
