Tanzania Excess baggage
Posted: Fri May 29, 2009 01:39 PM UTC
My wife and I are flying to Arusha in July and then overland safari to the Northern Serengeti before flying from there to Zanzibar. The flight to Zanzibar has very limited baggage allowance. We would like to leave a case of about 10 kilos in Arusha to be transported to Zanzibar for our arrival there 10 days later.
Does anyone know of potential carriers in Arusha?

I would talk to your Safari company to see if they can help you out. Try to arrange this ahead of time- that is before lugging your baggage all the way to TZ and running into a problem. This is probably your best and most assured bet. Most packages not shipped by mail in Tanzania are transferred by a fee along bus lines. This is very risky, as there is always the potential that the bag will be lost along the way- that is stolen. You have to figure also that your bag will have to go through numerous people's hands to get to Zanzibar.
It may be costly, but in Arusha you can find both Fed Ex and DHL shipping services. Find out if they ship from Arusha to Zanzi- again before you get to TZ. If not, you may want to figure out how to reduce your baggage load so you can keep everything on you.

just leave your baggage at the office of the company you fly with(ZAN AIR/Preciconair) and ask them to put your baggage in an other airoplane which is nor full.
