Travelling Goa for the first time Posted: Fri May 29, 2009 01:08 PM UTC
Hi Guys
We are traveling to Goa (4 Adults and 4 Kids) from 23rd of June till 28th of June and we are really very excited as we are going for the first time. Can you please suggest how can we roam around the city with more fun and not so expensive way. We will be staying near Varca Beach. Please suggest us regarding car hire, their rates, best places to visit in Goa etc.
Thanks Puneet Bansal

take a self driven car/suv(scorpio/innova), will work out cheaper than hiring cabs and will be with you all the time and you can move around at your convenience. I would not suggest bikes, as its monsoon, so your plan's will fall apart some of the days.
You can contact Collin and refer my name(Agnelo from Bangalore), he can arrange for an SUV or a small car at decent rates. Collin's number 0982355114. Infact he will come and drop the car at the station or airport when you arrive and pick it up on the day you leave.
There's a lot one can do in Goa Laze and not do anything, drink, eat, see places, soak in the beach(but watch out during monsoon it might be rough), visit forts and explore cuisines and enjoy the fenny
Check out BluBlu's goa tips and also my things to do tips.
Have fun

If you are staying near Varca beach, then dont miss the water sports there.there are two operators --- one is Dominic and the other is cosmo sports.cosmo is more expensive, but opt for him in case you are going deep sea because he provides life vests, but for other short rides you could opt for Dominic.
We stayed at Club Mahindra and took a cab from outside and it cost us Rs.1200/- for one whole day. This was almost two years back.we got to see Mangeshkar temple, big foot museum, the church, did shopping in main city area and generally hung around the city.we had a good taxi driver. His name is Cajy-- contact no.09822184938.
The shopping there is awesome, fake branded clothes, fenny etc..the cabs through club mahindra was costing us more.
Just enjoy the beach as much as you can.that is the best part of Goa.
Hope this helps,
Have a good and safe trip,

Re: Travelling Goa for the first time Posted: Sat May 30, 2009 11:12 AM UTC
I guess you are staying around Varca Beach, here is a tentative schedule you could work around with it based on your group's mood and interest level :
Day 1 - Go around Varca, Betalbatim and Mobor/Cavelossim Beach(all these beaches are within 15 km radius of Varca), if there is interest in water sports - Colva beach has few water sports operators. Try dinner at Fisherman's Warf(opposite Dona Sylvia), its on Cavelossim beach stretch
Day 2 - You can drive via Panjim, check out the world famous Francis Xavier Church(known as Bom Jesus Church), magueshi Temple is also around and you check out Old Goa(its completely a different place compared to the rest of Goa) a little bit. Later you can proceed to North Goa via Panjim and check out the Fort Aguada and Chappora Fort(its a steep climb), the sunset view from Chappora Fort is Amazing, you can sip some beer and spend the sunset hours there, its the fort where Dil Chata Hai was shot, the local guy who sells soft drinks up there will show you the spots for photographs. On your return to Varca, you could have dinner at Britto's(its on Baga Beach) and then return to your room.
Day 3 - Drive down south to Palolem Beach, its the most scenic beach in Goa, on your way back you can g to Agonda Beach and check out Cabo-Da-Rama(its where Rama was supposed to have been during his exile and emerged out of there) and evening get back to your room and try dinner at Martin'c Corner(at Betalbatim, which is 10 mins drive from Varca)
Day 4 - You can laze during the day, spend the time on the beach and evening by 5pm you can head to Panjim and go on one of the sunset cruises on the Mandovi River(at Panjim), you can also do some Cashew Shopping and liquor shopping at Panjim) and get back the room for dinner.
Day 5 - Just relax on the beach and drive around locally, you would have become familiar with placea round you and if you have the energy, go back to any of the places you liked the most.
* Goa is easy to drive, not complicated and traffic is less, thats why i suggested to have your own vehicle from when you arrive till you leave, you can do the above at anytime your group is up and get back whenever you want.
Have fun, if you require anymore info, let me know

Your welcome!!!
Please take a print out of Goa road map, if your gonna be driving yourself, its pretty easy, one line of beaches and big cities you will have to take the NH, so dont worry about getting lost, and goan's are very helpful in case you need directions.
Do feel free to write for any other info or specific requirement/details you neeed.
