Caracas One night in Caracas
Posted: Thu May 28, 2009 08:07 PM UTC
Hey, guys last minute question. I get into Caracas on Saturday. I'd planned to travel on to a smaller city or town but it turns out I only arrive in at 11pm. So I was wondering if anybody knew any cheap places to stay that I could book at the last minute? Or if there were any night buses running that I could get? Any advice would be really useful,
thanks Carly

I have been to Caracas before and in broad daylight.I made it a point on the information i got at that time that it is not very safe to go wondering around especially at 11.00pm.It is better to have something established in a safe area before hand.
Even from the airport i had to use a special taxi ( Black 4x4 with tinted windows )to the city centre.
This is only as a safety measure and as i know it and things could have changed from 2 years ago.

I have a friend who lives in Caracas and says it is still very unsafe to be out anywhere after a certain point at night. The criminals really love to "nail" the tourist that come into the airport. If I recall, you have to go thru a poor area before you get into the hotel area(which that alone is not a short drive), so be aware of EVERYTHING your doing when you fly in. Take as little of valuable things with you, hence the cheaper the watch, wallet, clothing. This is a good place to travel light.

Hey Carly,
I just stayed overnight near the Caracas international airport June 1, 2009 at Hotel Catimar Puerto Viejo. Go to this site, www.hotelcatimar.com - and you can register online. They will pick you up at the airport if you want and return you to the airport in the morning. The cost for 2 of us was 240 BsF. for 1 room with roundtrip transfers to the airport.
