Honeymoon in the Canaries!!!! Posted: Thu May 28, 2009 09:13 AM UTC
Hi All!
I had never heard of the Canary Islands before but now I am planning to spend my honeymoon there. Me and my fiance are getting married in October and will be going on our honeymoon in December during the Christmas holidays. And as she wants to go to a beach, I came to know that The Canaries will be the best during that time of the year in Europe.
Now here are my questions:
1) Which of the islands have the best beaches?
2) Can I hop from island to island, and if so, then how?
3) All the islands have atleast one airport. But do international flights go to all of them or only to some of them?
4) What will be a realistic budget for a honeymoon in the Canaries for 5 days???
Any inputs will be of great help as I dont know anything about these islands.
Thanks!

PS: I forgot to ask one more thing. We are not party animals but would like to do some adventurous things like para sailing, skuba diving, water boarding, etc.
Do these islands provide these adventurous activities? And what are the other attractions to see in the Canaries apart from the beaches?
Thanks once again!

hiya
my daughter took her open water scuba diving course with CanarY Island Dive School in Lanzarote ( pueto Del Carmen) - they also do short course and accompanied dives for competant divers too
www.canaryislanddivers.com
Sam said they were very professional and good to be with in general also - tell kev ( the owner) Sam from Barnsley recommended them if you go ahead with this option - they are also based in a hotel complex and might be able to get oyu a good rate there
good luck with whatever you chose to do

Hello and congratulations!
i've been in 2 islands, Lanzarote and La Palma. For me the best is La Palma cause have different things to do: explore the island which is very diverse and the beach, there are beautiful beaches (all beaches area black sand). but the best is the variety of nature in the island. You can go trekking and visit forest, coast, vulcanos and the National Park Caldera de Taburiente. Also, bicicle, scuba diving...
I am not sure if you can drop other islands, i think you can go by ferry to El Hierro(very small island). All the islands have an airport.
I am not sure about the price but i know is the most expensive beause it's one of the less touristic.I'll check now and for June is 693€ with breakfast and dinner, plane from Madrid and all the rest.
pd. you have some pictures in my canary islands page(i have to bulid the page but you can see some nature)
greetings from Madrid,
Eva

The Canary islands are just that many islands, part of Spain since 1496. I have my grandparents from Tenerife and visit often family and friends there, so obviously i am biased.
1) playa las Americas and costa Adeje in Tenerife Sur=south are best and you have an airport at about 30 km from them.
2) you can hop from island to island by air and ferry boats from the main towns like Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
3) yes they have airports, only the most remote islands do not have direct inter flights
4) 5 days budget honeymoon , this I have no idea, you know what you can spend, the cost is similar to any part in Southern Spain.
You have websites in english that can help you ;plus enter the island name in VT destinations and see what others have written about them. Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, Hierro, Gomera, La Palma,Fuenteventura.
sites
the official site for all the islands
http://www.turismodecanarias.com/en
the site for Tenerife island
http://www.webtenerifeuk.co.uk/PortalTenerife/Home/Home.htm?Lang=en
attraction aquatic park in Puerto la Cruz,Tenerife
http://www.loroparque.com/index.asp
caves abundant in TEnerife, and near you,you can change to english above right
http://www.cuevadelviento.es/
a good map of Tenerife, you can magnify it and see all points on the island in pdf file format.
http://www.webtenerifeuk.co.uk/NR/rdonlyres/EA3C24E1-77D4-4DBC-89A4-312F1B83C244/0/mapatenerife.pdf
this is from where my family is from, big file pdf format(19,6 Mo) but tells you all about the outdoors plenty to see there, especially if you like walking into parks and just be outside, history and complete. Could be a great romantic escape from everything ::)

Can anyone tell me what are the most beautiful places to visit and things to do on the island Lanzarote? Are the beaches there with golden/bright sand or with black sand?
Thanks!

Hi...I think you took you right decition choosing the canaries.
I am sure you will hear many opinions about each island.
My PERSONAL opinion, is that Lanzarote would be the best one for a 5 days break.
You can find nice beaches, you can tour the whole island in one day if you hire a car and you will see spectacular landscapes and beautifull villages, plus there is a National Park wiht an amazing volcano(you will see how water boils as soon as they pour it in a hole in the land, or how they cook the food just with the heat coming from the earth).
And I think you can choose hotel or hostels acording to your budget, from high-luxury rooms to "normal" afordable hotels.
anyway...I am pretty sure you will get many, many diferent opinions, so at the end, it is up to you.
p.s: Congratulations for the wedding.

I forgot to tell that from Lanzarote you can go to Fuerteventura by boat in just 40 minuts, probably you will see dolphins while sailing and if you are lucky you will see whales.
There are one day excursions at travel agencies for a "reasonable" price.

Hi!
First of all, excuse me for my English.
Lanzarote is a very beautiful island, it has a touristy part in the South but you still can find places that is difficult to find in the world any more, in my opinion, Famara is one of them …, www.lasladerasdefamara.es
I hope you have a good time in Lanzarote!
