Re: Chile - Travel pal wanted - June 09 onwards. Posted: Wed June 3, 2009 05:05 PM UTC
Hi Eric, with regard to getting a job, in Chile its very much a case of who you know, so make some connections as soon as you can. My boyfriend is teaching English, and if you're here already its easy to get teaching work without the official qualifications, if you want to get the job while still in England(?) however, its a lot more tricky to get into. In my personal opinion though, getting strapped to a contract is not a good idea if you actually want to travel and see the country. You're too tied down. Something you can do here is give conversation classes, something I've chosen not to do personally, but you can charge 9 or 12,000 pesos per person and all ylou have to do is chat to people in English, just so that they can practice their English with a 'native speaker'. You can do this without a working visa too. I was recommended simply to advertise at the university down the road, so I think its pretty easy to get into. Also, this means you can then bugger off travelling when you choose, you just need to let you students know. Me personally, having not been able to find anyone to see this beautiful country with have decided to go to Washington in North America instead to do some voluntary work with horses there. Whoop! Good luck with your adventures, and if you want my advice, don't think about what you're going to do when you get there too much, just do it. Otherwise it'll always just be an idea.
