Los Angeles Best rates for Los Angeles Hotels?
Posted: Wed May 27, 2009 06:14 PM UTC
Hi all
Travelling to Los Angeles for my 60th in September with my partner.
Is it best to book ahead to get the best deals for room rates, or do you get a better deal by walking in and get the best room rate on the day?
Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks
Pete

Always book ahead, you can usually cancel 48 hours (each hotel has different cancellation requirements) prior to arrival if you find something better. If the rates get better at the same hotel you booked, you can usually call and ask them to give you the better rate. You just don't want to be caught without having a place to stay at (my guess). Good luck!

If you walk in on the day you will get the highest rate in any of the nice hotels.

LA is a big place. You might want to stay closer to the coast, Santa Monica or Malibu or somewhere more picturesque than industrial downtown LA. You can easily get where you want to go by freeway...altho traffic is an issue. Things like Disney, Knotts, Getty museum, Malibu Getty,Universal studios, the planetarium are all on the outside of LA proper so you will be getting on a freeway anyway. Downtown has the Disney Music Center, Pantages theatre, Hollywood and Vine and lots of homeless people and head shops. You could see those and then go back to your nice hotel by the beach. If you are planning on going to clubs at night you might want to opt for one of the big hotels right downtown so you could take public transportation...but walking around LA at night might not be the smartest.

I have a friend who's kids live in Santa Monica and I will see him tommorrow because they always get a hotel to visit their kids. Will let you know where they stay. As for Vegas..I love Mandalay Bay and if you go on their website there are alot of deals if you can go during the week and not on the weekend. Great pool and casino has great filtering so you don't feel like your lungs are full of smoke. MGM grand is decent and the tram to go downtown is there. My son loves the Wynn..but he plays poker and gets a poker rate and there is the new encore right next door. Depends on if you want a nice hotel or a bargain. I loved the beatles "Love" show. Worth the ticket.
