Need accommodation for a family of 7 Posted: Wed May 27, 2009 04:16 PM UTC
Hi guys, going to Chiang Mai for the first time in March next year for 3 nights. There are 7 of us, all adults for the trip. Any recommendation on where to stay? Is there nice family villa we can rent or should we just stick to hotel in the city? We probably need 3/4 rooms. Thanks guys.

How much do you want to spend per night? Knowing how much you want to pay always narrows down the suggestions and eliminates those that are too cheap or too expensive.
Here is one place I used 3 or 4 times in Chiang Mai. Maybe it is not in your class but it was okay for me. All rooms have air, private toilet, TV, hot water. There are individual safety boxe in the lobby, hotel has elevators. Restaurants, internet shops, travel agencies for tours, Seven Eleven stores nearby. You can walk to the night market from there. Hotel has free transfer back to the airport.
Montri Hotel. Located across from Thapae Gate. Flea market at the gate every now and then has stuff cheaper than the night market. Address: 2-6 Rajdamnern Rd., Thaphae Gate Muang Chiang Mai Thailand. In March they might even go lower on the price for a large group.

You might want to check out Viangbua Mansion (they have a site online...just google Viangbua Mansion) I've stayed there when I used to come here as a tourist, and sometimes use it when visitors from the States come to see me and found it very comfortable. All rooms have private baths (some even have a bath tub and an enclosed shower)and are air conditioned. There is WiFi through out the building, and each room has a TV that gets four or five English speaking channels. It's very clean and the staff speaks English. I don't think you'll get a reduction in rates during March at any of the places here tho...since Low Season doesn't start until after Songkran in April...Hope this helps some and enjoy your visit to my adopted home town! Star Hotel had Deluxe rooms for 1450 baht this April and were very good. Standard were 1050 if I remember correctly and looked fine ( I checked both ).Good location, just a stones throw from the night market and walking distance from bars, restaurants etc.

Hi, I can't think of any family villas offhand - there are some great, cheap hotels in the city. Have a look at the hotels pages at <a href="http://www.thailand-travel-help.com/chiang-mai-thailand.html"target="_blank">thailand-travel-help.com</a> - i've found this site useful as there's prices as well as photos and links to websites....if you've lots of money...tamarind village or Baan Klang Wiang are nice ...mid range....perhaps Elliebum guesthouse or The Nest Hotel...a cheaper place that's very nice is SK house 2 or Pao Come Guest House...you can find them all on the site....good luck :)
