Hello,
I am from Ottawa and have driven out to BC twice. I have never been to the Yukon or Alaska but can make recommendations about the Rockies where I spent a lot of time on both trips. It would help me and other forum members for you to explain what you mean by entering in Alaska. Are you planning to go all the way to Anchhorage and Denali NP or are you just referring to the Alaska panhandle ( Haines, Skagway ) and then taking the ferries back to Vancouver ?
While 28 days may seem long I recommend about two weeks to properly see the Canadian Rockies. How far you go into Alaska affects how much time you have for the rest. I also recommend visiting Victoria and Tofino with a mandatory stop at Cathedral Grove in both directions.
Either way it would be a shame to miss Kluane National park in the Yukon. I have never been but always wanted to go. After Whitehorse even if you are coming back down the panhandle continue on to Haines Junction and spend a couple of days at least in Kluane NP. You could then cross into Alaska going down the 4 to Haines.
More detailed recommendations will depend on how far you are going in to Alaska. Either way don't miss:
- The Icefields parkway
- The Bow Valley parkway
- the Johnston Canyon trails
- Lake Agnes and Plain of 6 glaciers trails at Louise
- Lakes ( Moraine, Louise, Peyto, Bow, Maligne, Emerald ... )
- Takkakkaw and Wapta falls in Yoho NP
- the Kicking Horse gondola in the Selkirks
- the Banff and Jasper gondolas ( hike to the top for 360 view )
- the three castles ( Banff Springs, Chateau Lake Louise, Jasper park Lodge )
- Maligne canyon
- the drive through Kootenay NP to Radium
...
