Itinerary Ecuador to Lima (maybe machu pichu) Posted: Tue May 26, 2009 03:48 PM UTC
Hello, I have approximately 3 weeks and am travelling from Quito to Lima (flying in to Quito and out of Lima). Can anyone suggest an itinerary which isnt too hectic? Is going to Lima AND machu pichu too much to do in 3 weeks? Also a friend is flying in a week after I do so we need a place to meet towards Lima. Any suggestions?
Thanks

Hi, I have been travelling through Peru and Ecuador in the last 2 months. I would suggest in Quito if you have a 4 or 5 days spare booking a jungle tour. I booked with rainforestur, based in Quito, you get 4 days in the Cuyabeno park, it is well worth it, really beautiful and lots of wildlife etc. I heard that Banos is a good toen to visit too, lots of outdoor activities. The boarder crossings are a bit hectic to Peru, I took a bus with Ormeno, they are rubbish, took me 10 hours longer than expected.
I was warned that the bus from Lima to Cusco near machu picchu isnt that nice, I did it the other way at night and it was fine, I stopped in Ica and went to Huaccachina, a desert oasis, its ok for a couple of days, do the dune buggy ride, lots of fun. There are plenty of buses to Lima (4 hrs). I was in Peru for 3 weeks, this was more than enough time. Machu Picchu doesnt take long if you dont do the trek, take the train from Cusco and stay in Agauas Calliente for the night, see the ruins and return to cusco that day.
Cheers.

Hi there,
we got back from incredibly beautiful Ecuador two weeks ago and would like to recommend three awesome guides who will turn your trip into a truly unforgettable experience:
1.) In the Oriente, in Cuyabeno, we were accompanied but a brilliant and very knowledgable fun guy named Diego. His English is excellent and he grew up in the area. He can tell and show you everything about plants, healers, animals in the rainforest, etc. Absolutely great: AMAZON RAINFOREST EXPLORATIONS: Diego Monteros, naturalist guide 00593 (0) 8 2554 474 or 00593 (0) 9 2471 101, Lago Agrio, SUCUMBÍOS, ECUADOR; dieghopes@hotmail.com
2.) For hiking, trekking, and going up a n d getting safely down again from Cotopaxi (that was a marvellous climb and simply a dream), Chimboarzo, Cayambe but also all the less demanding mountains we strongly recommend: Freddy Ramírez, Sierra Nevada alpes: fredrami@hotmail.com (on the job: info@hotelsierranevada.com); speaks good English and excellent German; 30 years of experience; his friend and colleague is awesome, too: Estalin Suárez: yanakakchi@hotmail.com
Should you contact one of these guides make sure to say hello from us. All three of them were absolutely fabulous.
We wish you a wonderful journey (we’d love to join you but need to save some bucks again first). May your experience be as unique as ours.
Good luck,
