Any suggestion on the best spot to stand (or sit if possible) to view the Magic Fountain of Montjuic in Barcelona?

it would appear that one doesn't want to be too close to get a good over-all view.

My pictures were taken from several points. It does not get so crowded you can't move around. Incidentally, the day I took the pictures my aim was not watching the fountains, I just passed by at the show time and I had my camera with me.

At Maria Cristina Avenue you will get an overview of the fountains and the Palau Nacional behind... but most probably you can't sit anywhere. You may sit down at the stairs, but in this case you will have the Palau Nacional behind you (not so good view IMHO)

I noticed in your photos that people were sitting on the steps, but then the fountains are behind them, no?

Also some seemed to be sitting on a wall around the fountains?

Better to see after dark, I guess?

people do sit all around, even if the view is not that great. The steps are between the main jets and the MNAC (Palau Nacional)

there is usually many people in the terrace in front of the MNAC as well, so seeing the fountains from "above". However I would not recommend this place for a first visit (but is a different perspective when you already have seen others)

The show does not last so much, you can go a bit early, sit somewhere people watching, once the show starts you can get up to a place with better views.
The shows are at sunset/night. I do prefer it when is not totally dark, so the buildings around add to the visual effect

Nice to know that! I would have thought to get there after dark, now I know better.

There are VERY FEW TOILETS.....Don't drink lots of beer, make sure to "go" beforehand, and if you do need to use the toilet, then might be worth walking to the hotel at the end of Plaça d'Espanya to use that rather than queing at the cafe!

Another very important tip and not to put a damper on things, but this is prime hunting grounds for pickpockets. Be on extra high alert. My wife got her wallet taken out of her bag there or on the metro coming from there. We were living in Barcelona, very savvy about the situation and still we got burned. Just be extra careful where there are crowds of tourists. Have fun (seriously).
