Budapest Paying with credit card
Posted: Tue May 26, 2009 01:57 PM UTC
Hello!

We are interested in buying 1 Day Travel Card (1500 HUF). Is it possible to pay it by credit card at underground machines?

We will arrive at Nepliget bus station. Could we buy that card in this station paying by credit card?

The problem is we are going to stay only 7 hours at Budapest, so we prefer to pay all with credit card on order nor to change money.

Hello,

Unfortunately at Népliget there is no vending machine of any kind. I'll check it this weekend if there is any chance nearby to buy daily ticket with credit card (I live close to this place). Which day will you arrive and what time?

Thank you very much.

I will arrive from Wien to Budapest at Nepliget Hst.5 on 6th June (Saturday). If you could inform us about the nearest place to buy 1 Day Travel Card paying by credit card, it would be a great help for us.

By the way, could you tell me the meaning of "Tagesfahrer"?

Thanks again

Hi,

This is a german word and I'm not speaking german.
I thought it means daily ticket but someone says no.
Where did you saw it?
Or did you mean what does the hungarian daily ticket means in terms of usage?

Tamás

The nearest wending machine with credit card is on Deak squere. ( 6 station from Nepliget with metro 3 (blue). At Budapest only few wending machine and ticket office accept credit card :(
I think, the best choice to change your € in Vienna or at Nepliget bus station ( from 6:00-22:00 every day) to Forint ( HUF). If you want to check only 10-15€ it's better than pick up Forint from ATM, because I think all ATM has handing fee about 2-3€.
Where will You go from Nepliget? ( Airport? Railway station?)

Hi,

I've checked the Nepliget station. There is no any way to buy ticket with credit card. There is one money change office inside the bus station building. As I saw it is open on weekends only till 8 PM. They're changing on very bad rate. The official rate in banks today was 1EUR=280HUF at the bus station the rate was 1EUR=233HUF. If you change only a few enough for 2 daily tickets, the loss is not so big.
From this building with an escalator you can go downstairs to metro station. At the metro station there is an official ticket office where you can buy your tickets. The office is open till 8 PM.

Thank you very much Tamás and Lathya 63. If there is not other possibility, I will do whay you say. I will change at the bus station if it is opne, if not I hope to find an ATM near. I want to not waste time because I have a lot of things to see at Budapest.

In reply to Lathya 63, I will arrive at Nepliget bus station at 10:15 a.m. from Wien and I am going to stay only 7 hours at Budapest, that is the reason why I would prefer not to change money.

In reply to Tamás, I found that word trying to booking on line a ticket from Wien to Budapest with eurolines. I think the meaning is daily trip.

Thanks again.

It's a shame that BKV (Budapest Transport Limited) is stuck in the 20th century. Last year they announced accepting credit cards at 3 ticket offices as a real novelty! Since than, the number of offices accepting cards has not increased, nor have there been more ticket machines taking cards. I feel like BKV is not interested in letting people buy tickets but in punishing them for not buying it - even if they did have the intention of doing so...
