Hi
Could someone let me know the various options(public transportation, taxi etc)
on how to reach CBPF (Centro Brasileiro de Pesquisas Físicas)

from the international airport (GIG)? I could appreciate urgent replies,
as I am leaving today for Brazil.

I live in Belo Horizonte/MG. But I had been in Rio de Janeiro a dozen times as tourist.
Centro Brasileiro de Pesquisas Fisicas is at Rua Dr. Xavier Sigaud, 150; Urca.
In regard to the CBPF building place it is near Iate Clube do Rio de Janeiro or Praça Juliano Moreira.
If you have enough baggages at hand the best way is going to your hotel and then heading to CBPF. This journey may be done via taxi. There are a lot of them outside airport.
If you have not many baggages or if you will be timing in Rio you may direct to
CBPF through bus. There are some tourist buses leaving International Airport.
They are called as Frescão. Tell the people who work at Frescão you are interested in using the bus on the condition it goes along Praça Juliano Moreira; Urca. In case of going by bus set down near Praça Juliano Moreira. You will be very near to CBPF. If you walk heading to Baia de Guanabara, or, use a taxi just to reach CBPF it will be a small jouney.

Unfortunately, the best reply you got so far, from cassiovieggore, missed one important information: there is no Frescão bus directly from the airport to Centro Brasileiro de Pesquisas Físicas. So either one uses a Frescão bus to Copacabana and gets off in the vicinity of Rio Sul shopping mall - it is a short walk from the Xavier Sigaud Street, or takes a cab at the airport. Taxis of Cootramo and Transcoopass are the most reliable: you pay a fixed price and you can charge it on your credit card.
