Durban World Cup Trip June 2010
Posted: Mon May 25, 2009 03:17 PM UTC
Great news with the ticket application, I got 3 x tickets for 5 different matches in Durban. Myself and two friends will be staying in Durban for approx 2 weeks and I have a few questions.

1. I assume the city centre is a place to avoid, what suburbs or nearby places are safe? (for example, I've heard Umhlanga Rocks is the place to go??)

2. Is Durban getting any special activities etc to help entertain the 1000's of extra visitors?

3. Any pictures of the new stadium?

Thanks for your help. looking forward to it already.

City centre is a place to avoid. Good suburbs would be Glenwood(not umbilo), Morningside would be my choice, stunning restaurants and pubs, lots of B&B's (5 min to stadium)and central to everything(beaches, sports, freeways, shopping, restaurants),Berea (10 min to stadium), Durban North(15 min to stadium), Glenashley(15min stadium), La Lucia, Umhlanga (20 min), Umhloti (30 min to stadium), Ballito (45 min to stadium)

The fan zones are apparently from Ushaka Beach to Blue Lagoon and awesome stretch of beach. my picture is a picture of the new stadium In Durbs. Remember weather will be best in Durban at this time

Google Trip Advisor South Africa as there are lots of posts on World Cup Plans, there is also a world cup trip member group (a bunch of people coming to 2010 SA all from different parts of the world and all hoping to hook up with other people they have met on the site.

Yep, Durban's city centre is a mess - avoid! While crime is indiscriminate and any suburb may pose potential safety risks, I'd try and stay within the Durban North to Umhlanga Rocks corridor.

Durban beachfront is also a good option for your accom. You'll be able to walk to the stadium.A pleasant walk & the stadium will be linked to the beach walk-ways.Walk in groups & you'll be fine.Safety being beefed up in all 2010 cities. Not a bad idea to avoid car hire & hire for out of town trips only. The Lions rugby tour was in Durban this past weekend & thousands of fans stayed on the beach front & walked to the rugby stadium (Next to soccer stadium)
The beach front will be the centre point for 2010 activities in Durban so will have plenty specific activities.
Great beaches, great food, great people & great winter weather.
Come to Durbs--you'll love it !!!
