Re: Few Urgebt questions for next week in LA Posted: Sun May 24, 2009 08:00 PM UTC
I commuted for two years out to Torrance (southern part of the LA area) and stayed at a Homestead Suites Monday through Friday, for just the reason you said - I had a full kitchen and did all my own cooking. At that time (a few years ago), the room at the Homestead Suites was about $75/night, but an efficiency apartment was quoted at $1,900/month(!)...it was crazy that a "hotel" was cheaper than an apartment (in a decent area)...
You can easily find the Homestead Suites website, and there are other chains that do this as well...just make sure that the room actually has a furnished kitchen.
In terms of car rental companies, most are national and have decent offerings and service. Note that car rental rates tend to be higher at airports (where they have a captive audience), and that some of the companies (particularly Enterprise) tend to focus on the "neighborhood" office, where the prices are less (note that Avis and Hertz have some neighborhood offices as well).
