Cusco Living in Cusco

Hello,

I'm a student and I'll be living in Cusco from August-December of '09 and studying at the Universidad San Ignacio de Loyola. If you have any general advice about living in Perú long term, especially any good places to pass time in the city, it'd be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

If you really want to meet locals, go salsa dancing (at Mythology on the northwest corner of Plaza de las Armas; every night 9-11pm). If you have two left feet, take a class first at Salseros Cusco up the street on the corner of Calle Colombia and Venezuela Number - 7 Collasuyo. There are lots of expats at Mythology too, so you don't even have to speak Spanish.

That sounds great, do you know of any other good bars/places to eat late night there? My Spanish is pretty good, there shouldn't be a language barrier

Hi there,

I was in Cusco in January of 2008 and loved the city. Mama Africa's is a good disco. Upstairs on the Plaza. On the corner next to it is another good disco also upstairs. The Irish Pub on the other side of the Plaza also is a good hangout with good pub grub. There are some good cheap places to eat just off the plaza on some of the side streets. I don't remember any names though.

Enjoy Cusco. It is a great city.

Tom

The upstairs disco here mentioned is Mythology. I've also heard good things about Mama Africa, but never been. There's another salsa place down the street with live bands some nights (and I think it's a restaurant too) upstairs on Calle San Juan de Dios just south of Plateros, on the east side of fthe street (you'll hear the music from below) :)
