Check Point Charlie Museum Posted: Sat May 23, 2009 03:59 PM UTC
Most of the comments made regarding this sight and the musuem
mention there are too many people there to appreciate it.
What if these sights were visited very early in the morning or late
in the evening? Is it still overcrowded then for viewing and is the
line to the musuem still long?

Hi,
I visited Checkpoint Charlie in the early evening, and didn't find it crowded; there was no queue for the museum.
You are welcome to read my tip:

Good luck and enjoy,
Ilan

I was at Checkpoint Charlie during the day when it was really crowded, but that is all about the madness and posing with actor guards. Even then there were no queues at the museum. I think many people do not bother about it, the majority of tourists just try to get their Hollywood photo with the Russian and American soldier-actors.

You could always go right off the beaten path and visit the Das AlliiertenMuseum (The Allied Museum) on Clayallee. This is a hidden gem, and will definitely not be too crowded. See http://www.alliiertenmuseum.de/
From memory, the original Checkpoint Charlie guard-post is here; the one now standing there now is a replica.

not that crowded, not that big a deal, and frankly not on your top ten list for berlin. better to visit the topography of terror three blocks west and skip this kitchy museum and faux checkpoint.

I pretty much second nicolaitans remarks. Checkpoint Charlie is just a very tacky place, with or without tourists. Here is a detailed link to the above mentioned topography of terror exhibition:
