I'm planning a trip to Australia in september, and I'd like to know wich is the best city to depart from to go to the great barrier reef tour, and wich is the best tour operator that does a plane tour?

Cairns and Port Douglas are the usual bases for GBR visits.
If you have a look at www.great-barrier-reef.com you'll find many different tours and flights.

there is a small sea plane company that operates from green island - not sure of the name though. GBR helicopters are a good company that offer a number of tours if you are interested in helicopter tours. personally, i prefer helicopters as they can hover over interesting areas, marine life, etc.
