Hi

I'd go and spend a few hours in the Bardo museum. It is excellent - great collections of mosaics, sculptures, and art work. It is one of my favourite museums.

There is a very big souk in Tunis which will also be worth a visit.

Have a good trip.

Peter

Your cruise ship will probably arrive at La Goulette. The port is a short walk from the TGM suburban train line...going one way will take you to the city centre, going the other will take you along the coast to Carthage and Sidi Bou Said. 5 hours in port isn't long enough to do both, so you've got the choice between big city and seaside ruins/clifftop villages.

If you choose to go into Tunis, the best thing to do would be to head straight for the old city (the medina). Walk round the souqs, visit Zeitona mosque, maybe visit one of the smaller museums, have a mint tea in one of the traditional coffeeshops...the old city is large enough to get lost in, which is part of the fun, but make sure you leave yourselves enough time to get back to the port!

If you choose the coast option, Carthage has several stations...it is a very spread out site, with the ruins scattered among modern houses. A bit further is Sidi Bou Said, a clifftop village with whitewashed houses, all with ornate blue doors. It's a pretty place with great views over the Bay of Tunis, a couple of house museums and some great cafes...but it is touristy, and in July it will be thronging with visitors.

Both Tunis and Sidi Bou Said are about 15-20 minutes from La Goulette by train.

Hope this helps ;@P

Sidi Bou Said is very touristic, but a beautiful place indeed. It's really worth it!

Hi,
If we go to the old city:
Do we have to exchange money? Is there a possibility at the train staion?
How about a taxi? How much would that be? (more or less)
