French Polynesia Rent sailboat?

Anyone knows whether it is possible to rent a sailboat large enough to sleep on it (28ft+)? Could be a rather fantastic way to enjoy the place over a couple of weeks..

I have not done it but know that it is possible.

Just google "yacht charter tahiti" (as you would always arrive there by airplane I think it is the place to start) and you will get lots of hits, like these:

Thanks, I found similar sites but they all seem to offer complete tours with crew, guide, food (i.e expensive). I'm thinking more of a self-made tour for tourists who can operate a sailboat. The freedom this offers is incredible, plus sleeping at sea in such a fabulous environment must be just sensational. I'm thinking this could be a cheaper option too.

I see. I can imagine that this would be a wonderful experience for someone who loves sailing. Not for me though. I already have mixed feelings about travelling on a big cruise ship ;-)

I can understand rental companies wishing to have a skipper on board in coral reef areas rather than "trust the luck of the draw" with the do-it-yourself-sailor.

Very good point, most Western sailors aren't exactly used to dodging coral reefs! I guess a feasible option is to buy one of these sailboats and sell it at the very end, not the simplest solution but for the freedom of movement this offers, it could be worth it.
