Lyon Train Tix: Lyon - Geneva
Posted: Thu May 21, 2009 07:55 PM UTC
Hello!

I am trying to find out about the cost of a train ticket from Lyon to Geneva on September 15. I know this is too far out to make a reservation, but I just want an idea of the cost. Even when I use earlier dates (for comparison), I can't seem to get any pricing info. Can somebody please help me with an idea of the cost?

My husband and are planning a trip from Dallas - Milan - Geneva - Lyon. But, our plane tickets back to Dallas are $100 (USD) cheaper if we fly back from Geneva instead of Lyon. So, I am just trying to figure out if it make sense from both a money and time standpoint. Any help would be appreciated!

Happy Travels!

If you can't manage the French, look at www.sncf.com which has the Fench railway English pages.

Look for the same day as you want to travel but 2 or 3 weeks ahead of today. Railway websites do not carry huge amounts of data a very long way in advance, but neither train times nor fares are likely to change hugely before you actually travel.

I personally find the www.sncf.com rail site to be filled with total garbage. It's a merry go round of confusion.
The web site given in French above http://www.voyages-sncf.com/billet-train
is the best way of going directly to the information required.
That is finding the train times and cost.
Despite what has been said already, it is possible to find the times and cost of a train from Gare de Lyon-Part-Dieu to the Airport at Geneva on September 15.

Simply put these pieces of information into the boxes and HEY PRESTO :

€26.50 and it takes 2 hours 9 minutes. Find your best time of departure. It's simple stuff really.

VOILA !

Agreed - I always use the French language site. To get those cheap fares make a reservation as soon as the 90 day window opens.

For Geneva - Lyon I wouldn't book in advance. There are plenty of options, and the best thing to do is to just head over to the ticket office at the airport's railway station and ask there for a ticket for the first train available...

Overlooked that your are doing Lyon Geneva, and not Geneva - Lyon. But the same still applies. Just buy it at the station.
