Porto Novotel Gaia for the festival of San Joao - location?
Posted: Thu May 21, 2009 03:26 PM UTC
Can anyone comment on staying at the Novotel Gaia during for the festival of San Joao in Porto we are a family of 4 and we are traveling with another family of 4. This place seems to accommodate our 2 families.

I am thinking that it might be just as easy to stay here and use transit or taxis to get into the Rebeiro and Porto.

We are also going to take a train/cruise up the Duoro and the port is in Gaia?

Any comments are appreciated

For the benefit of any future readers, on a visit to Porto 12/13 June I have established that there are NO BUSES from the neighbourhood of the Novotel in Gaia (nor the Mercure or IBIS for that matter) into the city centre of Porto. The best the bus can do is take you to the Casa da Musica metro station where you transfer to the Metro for the ride into the city centre.

They do run several times each hour until the evenings. The website is www.stcp.pt and the route numbers are 902 and 903. It takes about 15 minutes to the metro and another 15 or so from there to get to the centre of Porto.

Neither do these buses run to Gaia.
